where, when like water freezes, we are captured in time and space as a frozen droplet of dew
from loneliness born is the love of loneliness,
and too, the love of good company.
from hunger born is the love of each food,
each grain, each fruit, and vegetable.
from great pain born is the strength in bones,
and muscle tone becomes sweet and tuned;
gentle movements of the heart arise
when the sun and moon and stars in the skies
have come down and up and burned inside,
and you sighed.

night becomes the shutter of day,
neatly dividing, compartmentalizing.
tear the shutter down!
all of this light comes from
the same source—
darkness is within us,
enough to fill.

is it enough to fall once?
were the rocks very cold?
were you afraid
to be alone?
…can you be alone?

there is a graceful way
to move, to be present:
acknowledge the largest
and minutist things equally
breath in the moon
breath out the sun
(they are your progenitors)
touch all things and
be one with them;
listen, and
they will be made understood
to you. resonate.
there is clear world.
there is flesh home.

what are you afraid of?
does it bite?
does it claw?
does it catch?
somewhere above the naval,
below the heart,
does it snag?
does it gnaw?
does it rip?
are you afraid to start?
are you afraid to travel?
do you tremble as if in battle?
…does it caw?
does it cry?
can it think?
can it die?

what are you ashamed of?
what lies deep in your subconscious
still torment you?
yes, they are lies,
and, a very long time ago,
you knew it.

what are you holding back?
is it not vast?
is it not infinite?
what chains do you drag,
what bonds do you wear
willingly?
what rules
your hands,
your heart?
are you afraid to start?

can you grasp,
can you touch what you want
to touch?
is it very much?
can it be broken up
into worths?
can you?

at the end of the day
is your value assigned
by one man?
by an organization of men?
would you, yourself,
decide the value of another?
would you condemn
your brothers,
would you send them away,
into darkness, to death?
would you willingly enter
the forest, bare the
hair raising stare of beasts
unseen? would you walk
that other shore?

are you sure?
what would you do?
what could you do,
what limits could you not surpass?
on the path of Power,
Power.
do you know your own limits?
do you want to?
…could you kill?
an animal?
a living, breathing, thinking,
being? a fellow traveler
on this material plane?

Do you think
you will know the suffering
of those you have hurt
when you die?
Could you believe
that your soul will ring
as the report of a bell
through earth, heaven, and hell?
Open your inner eye,
the eye that has always known,
the eye that watches over,
always silent—
Open it.
